Dear Parents: As Akron Public Schools continues to plan for the second nine weeks, which starts on November 11, 2020, we need to hear from you regarding which learning environment you want for your children. The school board will be making a final decision by the end of October regarding whether we continue with 100% remote education or whether we have students physically attending school at least two days per week. If the board decides to have students attend school in the building at least two days per week, parents/guardians will still have a choice to keep their children 100% remote. For the district to plan for the potential of at least two days per week of site-based school, we need to know which option you will choose for each of your children. We ask that you please complete the form linked below to indicate your preference for your student(s) to continue remote learning or transition to blended learning with some days in school and some days working remotely from home based upon a district-determined schedule. You must complete a separate form for each child in your family. The survey is open from October 1 to October 9. Once the board votes on a final model for the second nine weeks, we will ask you to make a final decision on 100% remote or APS Blended Learning. Thank you in advance for your participation. Sincerely, David James, Ed.D. Superintendent Akron Public Schools

Chick Quest LIVE Webcam for 3rd Grade Science
Chick Quest LIVE Webcam - 3rd Grade Science
05/11/2020
ChickQuest is an Ohio State University extension 4H enrichment program. Introduced in late 2008, it incorporates concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). It challenges third-grade students to investigate the lifecycle of egg-laying animals while monitoring the 21-day incubation period of an embryonic chicken egg and observing the chicks that hatch. The program is different from a traditional embryology curriculum in that it incorporates a daily science lesson geared to Ohio's academic standards. We do hands-on science in the classroom all the time, but this takes kids through the scientific and engineering thinking process. It has a hands-on component, yes, but it also has life. When one student saw a chick break open from the shell, he said, "This is a miracle." Students gain an understanding that things are alive, and it awakens a bit of their humanity as they are studying science. We laid the eggs on May 1, 2020 the chickens will hatch around May 21, 2020.

Letter From Superintendent David James
Letter From Superintendent David James
04/02/2020
March 31, 2020 As Governor Mike DeWine has now moved any possible reopening date for our schools to Monday, May 4, there is a possibility that our schools may not reopen this school year. In any eventuality, we are prepared to continue our students' education with APS Connected Learning, our online curriculum, for as long as necessary. We will continue to feed children as well so we can continue to provide nearly as much for our students when they are working from home as we do when they are in our classrooms. Families and students have contact information for any questions our teachers need to address; we encourage students, parents and guardians to let us know if they are in need of any assistance in adjusting to APS Connected Learning. While many of our staff members are working from home, we are available to assist by phone or email. And akronschools.com has the latest information you may need. We know this is challenging for everyone, and it is a big change for our students. Akron Public Schools greatly appreciates your involvement in our students' education always, and especially during this difficult time. Sincerely, David W. James, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools

Les Délices
Les Délices Visits Robinson in January
02/07/2020
In January, Les Délices provided their 2nd concert this school year. Students enjoyed unique musical styles performed by talented artists. Les Délices (pronounced Lay day-lease) provides opportunities for students to examine history through early music styles. Founded by baroque oboist Debra Nagy in 2009, Les Délices has established a reputation for their unique programs that are “thematically concise, richly expressive, and featuring composers few people have heard of.” The New York Times added, “Concerts and recordings by Les Délices are journeys of discovery.” The group’s debut CD was named one of the “Top Ten Early Music Discoveries of 2009” (NPR’s Harmonia), and their performances have been called “a beguiling experience” (Cleveland Plain Dealer), “astonishing” (ClevelandClassical.com), and “first class” (Early Music America Magazine).
