August 20, 2020

Greetings Robinson CLC Family,

Welcome to Robinson CLC: the Home of the Eagles. Thank you for choosing our school community as your partners to educate your child.

I am inspired by the dedication and commitment of the parents, teachers, and staff of Robinson CLC.  Together, we are continuing to expand our work towards achieving greater academic excellence and success for all students.  Your continued support during the 2020 - 2021 school year is vital for our students.  We encourage you to join us as we prepare for another rewarding school year.  Together, we can ensure that every student has an opportunity to excel academically.

This is a very different time in education. Due to unprecedented events, Akron Public Schools opening will be virtual at this time for the first nine weeks. I want to thank you for your patience and flexibility during this time as we plan for successful online school experience.

The goal of the Robinson CLC staff is to provide guidance for you and your child through this process.  Our ongoing partnership is extremely important. Please review the information below to help you with the online process, virtual citizenship, google classrooms, school support, and District Support. I will also include important dates to help you with your planning for your child.

What resources are available through the Akron Public School District?

If you go to the Akron Public Schools homepage you will see a yellow and red icon that says APS Learning. Once you select this icon, you will see the Family Resource page. The Family Resource page provides much-needed information that is helpful for families.

What does virtually learning look like?

Teachers will host google meets daily for your child.  Your child will receive an invitation through your child’s email to join the classroom.  All students will participate in google meets daily. Your child will have a daily schedule and time to participate in a google meets with their teacher.  Your child will also have free time in the day to complete activities and take a brain break without the classroom teacher. Teachers will host tech support from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to model lessons.  During the teacher's virtual office hours they will respond to any online questions, concerns, and discuss completion of assignments. Please note that your child will have google meets with the Art teacher, Music teacher, Gym teacher, Tutor, and Counselor.

What should I do if my computer does not work?

Mr. McKinney, TSS, will be available for specific questions such as cord replacements and screen repairs. Please feel free to contact Mr. Bomba, Dean of Students at (330) 761-2785 or by email at jbomba@apslearns.org, and he will send the service request to Mr. McKinney.  You may also share technology concerns with your child’s homeroom teacher.  Your child’s teacher can also submit a service request for you.

What are the responsibilities of teachers, students, and parents?

Online learning requires an ongoing partnership with the teacher, student,  parent, and principal.  All partners share responsibilities during online learning this is referred to as Virtual CitIzenship.   Virtual Citizenship ensures that your child has the best opportunity to learn safely and responsibly.  Our partnership is extremely important. Digital citizenship is a term used to define the appropriate and responsible use of technology among users. This was developed by Mark Ribble. Digital users must learn how to responsibly use technology to become a digital citizen: respect, educate, and protect learning.

I recognize it is a privilege to serve your child/children.  One of the most enjoyable aspects of my job as a principal is meeting and interacting with parents.  Excellent communication and parental support help us provide the tools needed for each student’s academic growth and achievement. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at Robinson CLC by building strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners.

Please feel free to call or email me to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this a great year!

Respectfully yours,

Anthony S. Lane

Principal
